Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)

Artist's comment: "In Close of Day, I wanted to focus on the various textures present in the architecture of this old bank building. Working in black and white and shades of grey, my renditions of 'color' must zero in on the contrasts between light and dark and the various textures of the subject I am portraying. In this instance, there was so much 'hard' texture in the form of marble and metal and glass that the composition cried out for a bit of 'soft' in the form of the mourning doves. As is often the case, the softness of nature contrasts with the hardness of the man-made."

Science Art note: It is not so surprisng that we see Mourning Doves in cities when you consider that they are more plentiful than people. See the Urban Birds essay.
