Conif and conif-decid forests, forest edge, riparian woodland. 1 brood.

NEST:

Usu on horizontal limb far from trunk; larger, deeper than that of Eastern Wood-Pewee, well camouflaged but usu without lichen, of plant fibers, plant down, often bound to branch with spider webs, lined with fine materials.

EGGS:

White to creamy, marked with browns, purples, oft wreathed. 0.7" (18 mm).

DIET:

Almost entirely insects; few berries.

CONSERVATION:

Winters from Colombia and Venezuela s to Peru and Bolivia. Rare cowbird host.

NOTES:

Reportedly polygynous, but frequency unclear, perhaps only rarely.
