These
day-hunting birds nest in cavities, natural ones found in
large dead branches and snags, and human-constructed sites
and nest boxes.
On campus, the bird is an uncommon resident, nesting in tree
cavities, Acorn Woodpecker holes, and occasionally in buildings
(including Poli Sci and the old Chemistry building on Lomita
Drive) and foraging in grassy habitats. The individual shown
here can often be seen at the Dish.
