Stanford Note: Each winter and spring Great Blue Herons visit Escondido Village, on edge of campus, where they watch the residents and eat some of the many gophers that infest the lawns. This Great Blue Heron was photographed around 1 pm on May 25th, 2007. It was quietly walking and observing near the intersection of Thoburn and Olmstead, got spooked by a deliveryman, and settled down across Serra Street in the wildflower area on the far side of the sidewalk.
