Stanford is a good place to see raptors. Several species, including both shown here, are resident year-round. Others visit seasonally, and some pass by on migration.

Stanford Note: While the Cooper’s Hawk (l) is fairly common throughout campus, foraging on birds (often Western Scrub-Jays, Mourning Doves, and House Finches) in virtually any habitat type, the White-tailed Kite (r) is more common in the adjacent foothills. Both were photographed in the faculty residence area on the back of the campus.
