I once heard E.O. Wilson suggest that all biological forms on Earth were
being squeezed into a "bottleneck". Partly inspired by that statement,
"Descent with Modification" is my own Brueghlesque take on the movement of
certain intellectual and cultural currents of our Darwinian world. Within
the painting I make use of particular individuals as emblemmatic of these
currents--most prominently Charles Darwin himself, but also E.O Wilson,
Richard Dawkins, Stephen Gould, Jane Goodall, Sigmund Frued, Pablo Picasso
and Peter Matthiessen.
