Completed in 2008, The Cosmological Bird approaches evolution with a sense of fantasy and spirituality. The central figure, the Cosmological Bird, is an assemblage of bird species, both living and extinct; it symbolizes both the first and the last bird, a summation of evolution. In front of this creature hovers an egg from which springs an interpretive, rather than descriptive, evolutionary timeline beginning with single-celled organisms and ending with the great apes. In the background, the ghostly figure of Mother Eve, half woman, half mangrove tree, presides over these ancient processes of time and trial while DNA patterns swirl around her in the miasma of space.
