To survive, trees must have built-in repair mechanisms to respond to the damage associated with climate change and attacks by microbes, insects, birds, other animals and, of course, humans. They must also repair any internal damage to their hydraulic and bio-mechanical systems. These repair systems may be in a constant “arms race” with the specific damaging factors. The painting captures this spirit of trees working hard to repair themselves and stand tall the next day.
