Welcome participants in the
............Artist Registry for Ornithological Researchers!

As you know. . .
The aim of our proposed non-profit organization is to bridge science and art by raising the visibility of Science Art and those who produce it.

Much of the art you produce could be marketed as Science Art--that is, art, when viewed through a science lens, conveys truths about nature.

Here is an example of Science Art by Vadim Gorbatov:

But please note. . .
To ensure that we can readily view the art through a science lens, it requires a caption.

A caption for the Gorbatov painting might read:

"The Russian painter Vadim Gorbatov is both an artist with an exceptional sense of design and under-standing of form, and a field naturalist with astute knowledge of bird behavior. Here he recreates the dramatic moment a predatory hawk attacks its quarry.

A predatory species, like this Northern Goshawk, must learn to read the vulnerability of a potential prey through its posture, be it injured, weak, or distracted. Here, the bird has swooped into a lek--a traditional mating ground in an open area where the Black Grouse have formed a mating aggreation. The two males contending for central positions (where their mating opportunities increase) are too distracted to flee. Gorbatov not only shows us the lek, he also suggests that this avian predator has learned to frequent the lek, but its success rate has yet to force the grouse to establish a new lek beyond the it's hunting range."

We will provide guidelines for writing captions.
