Roper Center Data Acquisitions Update - April 2005

Stanford University Libraries maintains a membership to the Roper Archive and Stanford faculty, staff, and students can order data from the Archive. This month the Update contains:

- Kaiser Family Foundation HIV/AIDS Survey conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International March 15-May 11, 2004.

- 6 CNN and USA Today Polls conducted by Gallup Organization from November, 2004 to February 2005.

- Newsweek conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International May 17-18, 2005.

NCES - NAEP Database Training Seminar Registration Deadline Is May 23

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education, will sponsor a three-and-a-half-day advanced studies seminar on the use of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) database for education research and policy analysis.

This seminar is aimed at faculty and advanced graduate students from colleges and universities. Education researchers and policy analysts with strong statistical skills from state and local education agencies and professional associations are also welcome. There is no fee to attend this seminar. NCES will provide training materials as well as computers for hands-on practice. NCES will also pay for transportation, hotel accommodations, and a fixed per diem for meals and incidental expenses during the training seminar.
The deadline for registration is May 23.

Source: Employee Benefit Research Institute, The American Savings Education Council.
Methodology: Conducted by Mathew Greenwald & Associates, January 4- January 30, 2005 and based on telephone interviews with a national adults age 25 & over sample of 1,253. For some questions, there were variations in question wording between the retired and non-retired respondents which are shown. The status was determined by taking into account the respondent's and spouse's retirement status.

National likely voters are registered voters who said they are somewhat/very/extremely likely to vote in the 2006 elections for Congress.

The Roper Center is pleased to announce the acquisition and release of The National Science Foundation Surveys of Public Understanding of Science and Technology, 1979-2001. This set of surveys is sponsored by The National Science Foundation­Science Resources Statistics. The core questions from the past eleven surveys (1979, 1983, 1981, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2001) have been combined into one easy to use data set.
