The Sorcerer 2013

Our 40th anniversary production of The Sorcerer had good crowds and brought Savoyards from all over the country into town to celebrate with a reunion.

The Sorcerer was set in a magical fantasyland where nothing was quite as it seemed: where helpful-seeming friends turned out to be servants of dark powers; enchanted spirits lurked at the edges of the village, eager to be set free; and a simple cup of tea could bring everlasting love...or everlasting sorrow.

The cast, many of whom have professional and community theatre credits from all over the US and Europe, ensorcelled the audience with their talent. The Sorcerer was produced by Savoyards President Gerar Mazarakis, and directed by Jeremy Erman and Sharon Beltracchi, while the pit orchestra was conducted by Jeff Yaeger.

A special kudos to our Vocal Director, Joe Haletky, who originally came to Stanford in the fall of 1972 to study choral conducting. He became one of the founding members of the Stanford Savoyards and it was a privilege having him direct this extraordinary 40th anniversary production.

Slideshow images from the performance were taken by Ritobrata Sur, Charles Hui, and Gerar Mazarakis.

Celebrating their 40th anniversary, the Stanford Savoyards proudly presented The Sorcerer! in May 2013

Following the huge success of their Tim Burton-themed Ruddigore and Star Trek: The Next Generation-themed HMS Pinafore, The Sorcerer was set in a magical fantasyland where nothing was quite as it seemed: where helpful-seeming friends turned out to be servants of dark powers; enchanted spirits lurked at the edges of the village, eager to be set free; and a simple cup of tea could either bring everlasting love...or everlasting sorrow.

Directed by Jeremy Erman and Sharon Beltracchi
Conducted by Jeff Yaeger
Vocal Direction by Joe Haletky
Produced by Gerar Mazarakis

Listen to a live KZSU interview with the Directors broadcast May 10 on Eliza Ridgeway's "Peninsula Report".

Passersby in downtown Palo Alto and Redwood City were given a a teaser of the show the weekend before opening. This YouTube clip shows the delightful interactions as we tried to hand out free Love Potions and the ultimate winner of a pair of complimentary tickets to a show!

40th Reunion!

Savoyards alumni, including many of the original founders, held a reunion reception that featured plenty of historical memorabilia: posters, programs, photos and video clips from past productions. The event culminated in a rousing sing-a-long of G&S songs.
