Developer Notes:
RTD completed a Phase I SBIR R&D program in February, 2000. This program
included the design and manufacture of a high quality first generation
prototype of a commercial robotic stroke therapy machine. The prototype which
was developed in collaboration with Mike Van der Loos of the Palo Alto VA
Rehabilitation R&D Center, was evaluated in a clinical setting. Test
subjects included four individuals who suffered stroke and two who did not.
Outcomes of the clinical study showed that the prototype system was able to
replicate closely a much more mechanically complex system in use in Palo Alto.
A Phase II SBIR proposal was submitted to the NIH. If funded, the program will
include the development of a second generation prototype and multi-site study.
A funding decision is expected in September, 2000.
