Maya Shankar



Maya Shankar,
 Ph.D., is Senior Advisor to the Deputy Director at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She leads the Social and Behavioral Sciences Initiative, which seeks to translate academic research findings from these fields into improvements in Federal program performance and efficiency using rigorous evaluation methods. Prior to joining the White House last April, Maya completed post-doctoral work in cognitive neuroscience at Stanford University, after receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship and a B.A. from Yale University in cognitive science. A former private violin student of Itzhak Perlman at the Juilliard School, Maya’s favorite pastimes include listening and dancing to all genres of music, reading the New Yorker, and swimming.
