Product Realization Lab

Q: What is the PRL?
A: The PRL, or Product Realization Lab, is a manufacturing facility that includes a machine shop, model shop, and foundry. The tools and machines in the PRL are used by undergrad and grad students (primarily engineering, ME, and PD) to create products, art pieces, and other objects or devices.

Q: What is in the PRL?
A: The machine shop has vertical and horizontal band saws, a Laser CAMM tool, 2 CNC machines, 6 mills, 8 lathes and a vacuum forming machine. The model shop has a variety of tools for cutting and forming softer materials like wood and foam. The foundry has a welding area (6 oxy-acetylene weld torches, 2 TIG machines, MIG machines) and an area for sandcasting, investment casting, sanding, and buffing.

Q: How can I use the PRL?
A: You must take a safety class before you can use the PRL. It also helps to know how to use the machines, which you can learn in ME203.
