Stanford vs. BYU
BYU began their season with a tour of the west coast, playing Davis and Stanford over a three-day span. BYU vs Stanford kicked off at midday, January 17th, and marked the first time the two teams had met in recent history. The game was ferocious from kickoff and Stanford rose to the occasion, pressuring BYU relentlessly on defense and forcing a couple early turnovers. However, BYU was able to capitalize on Stanford's early turnovers, and lead 19-0 heading into the half hour mark. Stanford mounted an attack before halftime, and after several phases of keeping the ball in the forwards, some slick passing saw John Clark diving over the line for a try. A conversion from Johnny McCormick left the score at 19-7, but another try before the half saw BYU leading 24-7. The second half saw renewed ferocity from the large BYU side, and their fitness and athleticism proved too much for Stanford. The final score was 64-7 - a large margin, but the game was invaluable for Stanford's development.
