Mary Louise Roberts is an historian of France who focuses
particularly on women and gender dynamics in the late nineteenth
and early twentieth centuries. Her latest book is Disruptive
Acts: The New Woman in Fin de Siecle France (2002). She
is also the author of Civilization Without Sexes: Reconstructing
Gender in Post-War France, 1918-1928 (1994). Roberts,
a winner of the Walter J. Gore Award for Excellence in Teaching,
now teaches at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
