Quantum Information Using a Single Excitation

Abstract: One of the goals of quantum information is the distribution of entanglement between different parties. Here we show how a single field excitation can be used to perform this task. We use a high-rate source of heralded single-photon path-entangled states, combined with high-efficiency detectors to distribute and measure entanglement in a scheme that is free of any post-selection.

This result opens the way towards implementations of device-independent quantum technologies within the framework of single photon path entanglement.
