April 5, 2016: Student Research Inquiry #3

I am currently an undergraduate sophomore majoring in both Physics and Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at MIT. I am interested in knowing about the availability of summer positions at HEPL this year.

Looking for opportunities that matched my interests, I was excited to find HEPL’s page. I hope to go into some subdivision of astrophysics in the future – possibly with emphasis on observation or cosmology, though it’s too early for me to say for sure. I’m not looking for funding or housing so much as a chance to learn more about what it’s like to work in these fields, and I would love to do so working with Stanford this summer.

A resume and transcript are attached, and I can provide references upon request. Let me know if there is any other information that would be useful.

Thank you very much in advance.

March 2, 2016: Student Research Inquiry #2

I'm an exchange student at University of Central Oklahoma. As a part of IIE's (Institute of International Education) BSMP (Brazil Scientific Mobility Program), I need to do a research related to my field, which is Mechanical Engineering.

I looked at your profile at the university website and found your research field very interesting. Are you accepting new students? Can you give me more information about it?

Thank you in advance

January 13, 2016: Student Research Inquiry #1

I am a Brazilian student and I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Mississippi. I am a senior student sponsored by the government of Brazil through the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP). BSMP is an one-year, non-degree program for Brazilian students to study abroad in the United States. I am studying on a J-1 visa and will stay in the USA until August 2016.

The program requires the students to do a research or an internship in the summer of 2016. I have been searching for several universities laboratories and professors research interests that may be stimulating and your field of study is one that I am very curious about. Interdisciplinary engineering and science are some of the Mechanical Engineering fields that give me the most enthusiasm and concern. I also know that Stanford is one of the most respected and well-known universities in the world.

I was wondering if you could give me an opportunity to support you and your group on this research. It does not need to be paid, as I have a sponsor that will cover all my expenses during this period. I am actually interested in learning as much as I can and add this amazing experience to my knowledge as an engineer. I am really eager to learn and you can expect my complete dedication to this project. I am available from May to August, as it is written in my letter of support.

I look forward to hearing from you and I am excited about the possibility of doing my first research in the USA with you at your university.
