money issues

Max made a special request for money issues just for tonight

class

we need a money estimate for the class in order to get fees from Stanford.
specific lists might be good, a background on the class would be good as well
are there previous T stanford fund budgets? YES, Grace can send to Max

receipts

Max can collect receipts from anyone who has them (Whit and Grace both have them)

SAID Conference Update

we are set for sure! Springtime in general (we can set a date) their conference director is on top of things

  • the new guy is much better then the old one
  • There will be some help from the GSB international development club

can we give honorariums for speakers?

  • yes

Total Budget?

  • $1,500
  • we can get more money (we need to cover air and housing)
  • SAID can offer $2k for the conf. but it's not enough
    • Woods Institute may help
    • There can be other sources too

  • Water is the general theme for the whole thing

Class Update

Heather Eric spoke with Jenna Davis about hand sanitation in Tanzania

  • measurement of bacteria on people's hands
  • she needs accurate ways to collect data in the field

Amy Pickering working on hand sanitizer, and various ways for testing

  • one potential method being developed
    • Eric may have interest in testing out this method to see how good it is
    • what do numbers mean, how might the test be improved
    • gauging the test for its effectiveness

question is a lab space, might be hard to find lab space

  • lab is moving and things are up in the air
  • we may need to buy stuff ourselves, but this might be prohibitively expensive

this class might be more of a research project than a design project

  • depends on perspective you might take
  • how to measure it in field
  • best way to measure it on a hand (may be Jenna's interest)
  • from Jenna's perspective, connection with the local institutions is the goal

what is the equipment?

  • ziplock back, vacuum filter down to less than 1 mL, may need auger and plates
  • constant temperature room may be the only part actually needed
