Solar Workshop update

Whit and Grace talked to Chris (Gil's TA) -->

3 plans

in all cases we would touch on how this gets installed and the whole system

  • solar PV water pump demo
  • historical PV perspective
  • solar thermal

small space

how to deal with this?

  • 2 shifts of maybe 10?

funding for lunch

Dick Luthy is willing to pay for lunch but we may want to think of how to justify

need to set up a sign-up sheet

Biodiesel Dinner

May not actually happen, but there are some good ideas here

  • we should think about how to make it a unique event
  • discussion format may serve a way to distinguish

Funding Report

Grace has $250 from center of environmental science and policy

  • Armand paid for dinner
    • Grace to pass along check to Heather
    • Whit gave receipts to Heather

SOE will meet in 3 weeks

  • we've requested $3k from SOE
  • $2k from Woods Institute
  • $1k from ____
  • $500 SCP
  • $500 SE Asian

Discretionary funding, why haven't we tried for special fees?

  • big hurdle is the hard part, once you are on it
  • due tomorrow, maybe
  • man power

Stanford Fund would be another good source

  • steady source
  • we need to do it a quarter ahead
    • do you have to use it?

They are working to streamline the system

  • it may get more strict

What about Graduate Student Council funds?

  • worth looking into

Max to be in charge of this stuff, bit by bit going forward

On-Grids Alternatives

Grid Alternatives is hoping to expand like Habitat for Humanities

  • there may be a good opportunity to bring speaker
    • getting GSB involved and getting people thinking about scaling it up

Lewis will think about how to organize it

Officer Retreat --> June 2nd or 3rd

agenda ideas...

  • the BIG IDEA would be to organize some sort of conference
    • scope and topics to be discussed

In fall National ESW Conference might be in Berkeley next year (late September)

  • possibility of the conference being canceled (next one in 2008)
  • big opportunity to work with the Cal chapter and help organize it

If no official conference we might hold an unofficial conference

  • Sophie and Kristof and Jen helped to make the conference
    • they might be great resources

Energy Crossroads may be in the winter but it may be in the Spring

  • we need to make sure we aren't overlapping but are complimentary
  • there is alot of other energy issues

Website discussions

  • who we want to serve, what they want to see, what is new to them but interesting
  • what technologies and features to build in
  • portal site? like boing boing?

Mission Statement development

  • we have a stake in the sand but need to work to develop it more
  • reflection on the historical successes and opportunities
  • comparison to national mission

Website

Spam

is becoming a problem, what are some solutions

  • universal password for editing
  • individual accounts may give us info but may be overkill

Whit will set up a universal editing password and we'll post the message

  • "if you want to edit this site, please email me and we'll send you the password"

Improvements

making it a much bigger part of sustainability at stanford

  • how to make it a portal site?
  • RSS feeds? news? links?
  • putting connections to videos, speakers, more info on our projects
  • multimedia would be cool --> content and needs of users should drive
    • using UTube
