Farm still in limbo

  • permits are an issue
  • mission is still unclear?
  • farming community doesn't care too much about eco-san
  • maybe time to appeal to broader farm community?

big proposal on the table?

  • hundreds of thousands
  • some for Sasha, some for class
  • engineering faculty not really included in the other grant application
  • Karim, Grace, Molly, Andrew recieved the proposal? or maybe just Andrew's letter of support
  • she'll be back in February?
  • Top priority of esw is to work with her
  • there is nothing specified for how engineering can play a role in her plans
  • safety issues in Haiti? Molly's perception was that there was significant risk
    • no real intern opportunity here
    • the on campus eco-san project may be the best way to move forward

Other possible projects - opportunities for interns?

  • project in Mexico?
  • partner with _______?
  • rotations? two in a summer?
  • are internships a goal for ESW? or should the projects themselves be more of a focus?
  • more interns cost more and require more time to organize
  • possible funding from HAAS, we could provide the contacts and connections for people
  • what might our benefits be?
    • speakers
  • can ask people in the classes to apply for the HAAS center fellowships
  • the due-dates are soon for this coming summer

Meeting with Dick Luthy - next week, what does he know?

  • explain our mission
  • inquire about their goals & asperations
  • explain the needs and opportunities
  • describe what's involved - the role (not research, but teaching e.g. Gill Masters, Eric Roberts)
    • mentoring student groups (explicit expectation)
    • help push to hire someone to compliment current gaps in public service (collaborate with Alex?)
    • not 'full support', just oversight & quality control
    • no-one to go to bat for us
      • to department
      • to other faculty
      • permit office
      • school of engineering
  • tell him other examples at other schools?
  • ask how student groups such as ESW can help lobby for

To Do items

  • (Grace) to write up an agenda for the meeting
  • who else can make it?
  • (someone?) talk to Molly and Alex
