I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Richmond (of the Virginia sort). I got my undergrad degrees in Biology and Physics at the University of Virginia. I'm presently in the PhD program for cell and molecular biology at Stanford. I work with the genetics and chemistry of the plant cell wall, with the goal of understanding and engineering cellulose for more efficient biofuel production. Last summer, I represented ESW in Haiti when I worked with Sasha Kramer and her group SOIL developing ecological sanitation and other sustainable technologies. It was definitely the most life changing experience I have had.
