From ESWStanford
Biodiesel Workshop 2007
On Saturday, February 24, thirty-six brave souls came out early in the morning to learn the basics of biodiesel. After a brief introduction of the theory and procedure, everybody got to get their hands dirty titrating, measuring and mixing to turn half a liter of waste vegetable oil into biodiesel and glycerol. We had great success, the reaction is really pretty simple, and no one messed up their batch. This practical experience was followed by a discussion of the pratical and policy advantages and disadvantages of this newly-popular fuel with two campus people.
If you are interested in learning more about biodiesel production, we recommend having a glance at the Wikipedia article here.

Thanks to the Department of Chemistry for providing the lab facilities, the Department of Chemical Engineering for providing the speaker facilities and to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for providing lunch. Thank you to Capra Devi who spoke to all the workshop participants on implementing engine modifications to run straight vegetable oil (SVO). Thanks to all the ESW officers who made this day a success---especially Adam Keek for providing the procedure and practical experience and Eric Jung for organizing the lab sessions---and most of all, thanks to everyone who showed up to participate and learn about this exciting topic and the surrounding issues.
