Designer, Environments Lab
As far back as she can remember, Natalie Woyzbun has always had a unique love affair with the design of memorable experiences. Her parents would say that she first exhibited these signs when she insisted on going to a sushi bar with the floating boats for her and her twin sister's eighth birthday.
Since then, Natalie has made it a point to create and search out compelling experiences. Born in Toronto, Canada, Natalie grew up in the burbs of Toronto. Along with her twin, she chose to move to the Maritimes of Canada to experience an east-coast university culture. She received her BFA from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada. Her focus was in painting and printmaking. After graduating, she moved to Somerville, MA. It was there that she continued to make art and work in a variety of galleries, most memorably the incredible non-for profit space in Boston that was connected to a subway station. Soon after, Natalie moved to the Hudson Valley in New York to study her masters in Curatorial Studies and Contemporary Culture at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. Her Masters Thesis focused on artworks that addressed complexities related to social situations in and around bars and parties. Her gallery opening included a pinata hitting contest. The pinata was in the form of a disco ball.
Soon after completing her MA, Natalie moved to the Bay Area and was welcomed into the d.School as part of the K-12 Initiative. She was part of the team that designed the Innovation Lab at the Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA.
Currently, Natalie is part of the Environments Lab team at the d.school. She brings her eye for detail to the d.school. As part of the Environments Lab, Natalie offers her curatorial experience to the team. Not only are the little things important, but you can never negate the power of thoughtful design. Natalie believes in designing experiences that push the envelope to better one's journey in even the most unexpected places.
Appropriately, Natalie lives on a sailboat in Oakland with her dear boyfriend and their very goofy labradoodle, Phin. When not at the d.school, Natalie likes to sail in hopes of seeing whales and sharks, run in the redwood hills with her dog, and search for the perfect cocktail.
