Sanjiv Sam Gambhir MD, PhD is the Director of the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS). He is the Chair of the Department of Radiology. He is Professor of Bioengineering and Materials Science & Engineering, by courtesy. He is also Head of the Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection.

Dr. Gambhir's research interests are directed at the development of techniques to study various molecular/biochemical events taking place in living animals and humans, in their natural state. Positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), photoacoustics, and optical imaging are some of the tools being utilized to accomplish these goals. He is also translating approaches for patient cancer diagnosis and management.
