Dr.
Brunger is a Professor of Molecular and Cellular
Physiology, Neurology and Neurological Sciences,
Photon Science and, by courtsey, of Structural Biology.
Axel Brunger's primary goal is to understand the
molecular mechanism of synaptic neurotransmission,
the major means by which neurons communicate with
one another in the nervous system. He is interested
in obtaining structural information about important
protein complexes between the individual molecular
components involved in neurotransmitter release
and receptor clustering. His lab is also testing
the "zipper" model of the molecular
mechanism of neurotransmitter release by using
single-molecule techniques.
