Executive Team

Sandeep Das

President

Sandeep Das is a junior from Virginia majoring in Mechanical Engineering and co-terming in Management Science & Engineering. He joined ASES as a sophomore, was part of the Finance team, and has led the Development & Strategy division. Aside from ASES, he is on the Stanford Taekwondo Team and enjoys training and competition. This summer, he will be working on business development for an early stage web startup. Other interests include travelling internationally, good food, music, aerospace, and film. He is interested in the future of nanotechnology, alternative energy, and transportation and hopes to develop innovative, entrepreneurial solutions to problems in these areas.

Mark Bocanegra

Vice President

Mark Bocanegra is a Economics and East Asian Studies major planning to graduate by 2011. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mark has spent ten years in Tokyo, Japan and eight years in Manila, Philippines. He is very interested in the rapid economic development of Japan, China and the Asian Tigers because he aims to apply this knowledge in his efforts to contribute in stimulating sustainable socio-economic growth in the Philippines. Spending two summers in Tokyo as an intern, he also has a very deep interest in the start-up and business culture of Japan. In addition to his involvement in ASES, he is also involved in the Stanford Journal of East Asian Studies, Stanford University Nikkei society and Fellowship in Christ Stanford. He also enjoys playing basketball and volleyball, learning about emerging countries and their development, reading and talking about philosophy and religion.

Yong Tan

Finance Director

Yong Liang Tan is a junior from Singapore majoring in Economics and potentially co-terming in public policy. He joined ASES as a sophomore and was part of the Finance team. Aside from ASES, he is actively involved with Stanford Taekwondo, Stanford in Government and the Stanford Model United Nations Conference, where he served as the Under-Secretary General for Committees in 2008. This summer, he will be attached to the Singapore Police Force, where he will be involved in crime-fighting, counterterrorism campaigns and criminal investigations. His other interests include playing the piano, singing, cycling and travelling internationally. He is interested in nuclear energy, and hopes to see innovative solutions to the energy crisis through entrepreneurial means.

Lo Min Ming

International Operations Co-director

Lo Min Ming is a Singaporean of third year standing majoring in Computer Science. He has been involved in various entrepreneurial projects in Singapore and hopes to be involved in the vibrant Stanford entrepreneur culture. He was a day head in Summit ’08, helping to get speakers and coordinate the event during the Summit week. For the past year, he was the Marketing Director. This year, he hopes to help out in International Operations division as he travels to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong next Fall to establish stronger relationships with the chapters.

George Tang

International Operations Co-director

George Tang is a sophomore from Beijing currently majoring in Computer Science. He has been the frosh intern, associate director of VC3, as well as having founded Stanford Venture Weekend in 2009. He has livened in the United States, Singapore, the Philippines, as well as China. He likes Mixed Martial Arts, Judo, Tennis, Basketball, Poker, and discussing the various complexities of life. A big goal in his life is to bring a smart, successful team from Stanford back to China to start a company that will pervade throughout Asia, then America, then across the world. He loves talking about new startup ideas and wants to promote entrepreneurship around the world. Not just talking about it, actually doing it!

Janice Wong

Development & Strategy Director

Janice Wong hails from both sides of the pacific having grown up in both California and Hong Kong. She is majoring in Science, Technology, and Society and has a strong passion for entrepreneurship and interest in learning about different cultures. Janice was an ASES frosh intern and has been an active member of the Stanford community. She is also involved in Stanford Society of Women Engineers and Stanford Women in Business. She interned at a local startup (still in stealth mode), doing product management and customer outreach last summer. Prior to Stanford, Janice worked with the Olympic Council of Asia and has enjoyed traveling extensively. When she’s not busy with Stanford related activity, she loves to dance and swim.

Joel Jean

Marketing Director

Joel Jean is a junior from Beavercreek, OH, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He joined ASES in 2008 as a member of the Summit Team and found the ASES family and the Stanford Summit so inspiring that he decided to take on a leadership role in the organization. He is currently working on an exciting interdisciplinary research project at Stanford aimed at developing a new type of concentrated solar energy converter. Apart from classes and ASES, Joel volunteers at East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring (EPATT), runs a marathon every once in a while, and represents freshmen’s interests as a member of the IHUM Student Advisory Board. He also enjoys tennis, violin, running, country music, and breakdancing. In the year to come, Joel hopes to build the ASES brand on and off-campus by experimenting with innovative marketing techniques and by making every member of ASES a spokesperson for ASES.

Laura Chau

Alumni Director

Laura Chau is a sophomore majoring in Management Science and Engineering. She was born and raised in Florida and is Vietnamese by descent. Laura joined ASES as a freshman intern and then served as Co-Director of International Operations. She has attended several summits in both Stanford and Asia, and believes that much of ASES value comes from the international relationships formed and exchange of ideas with other entrepreneurial students. In addition to being involved with ASES she is the Community Outreach Director of STOP (Students Taking On Poverty) as well as a member of the Stanford Wind Ensemble. Some of her personal interests include traveling, design, and performing music.

Lilly Zhu

Speaker Series Director

Lilly Zhu is a Sophomore majoring in Biology and minoring in International Relations. She is drawn to the creativity and independence of entrepreneurship. She has been with ASES since freshman year beginning as a division intern and then Director of Speaker Series this past year. In addition to entrepreneurship, Lilly is fascinated by biology research, especially stem cell research.

Hwee Juin Lee

Summit Director

Hwee Juin Lee is a sophomore intending to major in Biomechanical Engineering and minor in Modern Languages (French and Japanese). She joined ASES as a frosh intern and thoroughly enjoyed her enriching experience working in the Summit team. Her main interests include learning foreign languages, travelling, meeting people from all around the world, music and archery. Apart from ASES, she is an officer for the Stanford Japanese Exchange Club and will be going to Japan for language study this summer. Her academic interests include genetics, immunology and pharmacology and she hopes to pursue a management career in the biomedical industry in the future.

Christian Ollano

VC3 Co-Director

Christian Ollano is currently a freshman at Stanford, and is contemplating on double-majoring in Science, Technology, and Society, and Communication. He is serving as one of the co-directors for the VC3 team of ASES and aspires to pursue a career in business management or marketing. Along with ASES, Christian is heavily involved with the Pilipino-American community here at Stanford and is also a member of Testimony A Cappella and Stanford Wushu. In his spare time, he finds himself singing to the sounds of jazz and the latest hip hop.

Wan Jin Park

VC3 Co-Director

Wanjin is a freshmen planning to major in economics. Although he was born in Seoul, Korea, he grew up in Shanghai, China, spending more than 13 years in the international melting pot. Aside from ASES, he is involved with the Korean Student Association and performs street magic as his hobby.

Riddhi Mittal

Technology Director

Riddhi Mittal is a rising Junior at Stanford University studying Computer Science. She is an international student from New Delhi, India. She has completed the Systems track in CS and now aims to study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Graphics. She has been a Section Leader for CS106A since her freshman year. She is also the Co-Chair of Technology for the ASSU Executive Cabinet. Aside from Computer Science, she is interested in Technology Entrepreneurship, and Education. She led a team for the BASES Social Entrepreneurship Challenge 2009 and reached the semi final round. She also participated in ASES Venture Weekend at Stanford as a Software Developer Entrepreneur. Aside from CS and Entrepreneurship, she loves to Dance and has led and choreographed many dance teams. She knows Salsa, Jazz, Bollywood and Bhangra dance forms the best.
