Alexei Levinson

Dr. Alexei Georgievich Levinson is Head of Qualitative Research at the Russian Center for Public Opinion & Market Research (VTsIOM) in Moscow and a Lecturer at Moscow State University (MGU). At VTsIOM, he has also served as Leading Researcher in the Department of Theory.

He received his education at Moscow State University Institute of Oriental Languages and at the USSR Ministry of Culture Institute of the History of the Arts where he received his Ph.D. in Arts in 1981.

Dr. Levinson has also been the Head of Sociological Research at the State Committee for Science and Technology Research Institute, in Moscow. He held senior positions at the Ministry of Culture Research Laboratory in Moscow and at the Research and Project Institute of the State Committee for Building and Architecture, also in Moscow.

He has published over 250 articles on the sociology of urbanization, culture, consumption, and advertising.

The title of his paper at the Stanford Conference will be "TV and Mass Media: Constructing a New Consumer."
