Alumni Professors of ManufacturingThe Alumni Professors of Manufacturing (APM) program, formerly know as The Future Professors of Manufacturing (FPM), is an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare select individuals with industry experience for academic careers. The program has developed a cadre of talented professors who have created advanced manufacturing programs at universities across the United States that educate the manufacturing graduates needed by industry in the 21st century.
With the graduation of the final Stanford students in 2005, the APM program is completed Phase I of its ten-year plan to produce 35 manufacturing oriented academics for American universities. Twenty six graduates are now employed as professors at 24 institutions in the United States. See [Alumni Professors of Manufacturing] for complete list of graduates.
Phase II Activities Manufacturing Education Workshops held every other year at Stanford. Organized by AIM and the Alumni Professors of Manufacturing participants, these biannual workshops explore topics on how to prepare for, find, and succeed at academic careers in manufacturing education and research. Visits to manufacturing industry and university sites around the world. Every other year participants visit manufacturing industry and
university sites in specific locations to assess best practices and
establish collaborations for further research. Recent visits have
included trips to Japan, the U.S. Southwest, and China. 2005 Alumni Professors of Manufacturing China Study Trip Tomorrow's Professor Listserve with twice weekly postings on topics in the following categories:
