Communicating Clearly with Writing (2 part course) - February 10 and 17

TOD-3555

Communicating the meaning of written communication, such as emails, letters, reports, or documentation, is an important factor in its effectiveness. Whether your written communication is to disseminate information, make a request, document a procedure, or to present an executive summary, your goal should be a communication that is easily understood. This two-part course helps you get the results you intend by correctly structuring written communication, utilize simple formatting techniques to easily get across the purpose and key information associated with the communication, and get the communication's purpose quickly across to the reader.

This workshop will help you to plan, structure, and understand how to format written communication and is not based on the use of any particular software.

Course Requirement: Participants must complete an assignment between sessions, and will get individual coaching at the second session.

No course fee.

  • Learn the typical approaches and communication preferences of people who have a communication style different than your own

  • Practice communication tools and strategies that will help you handle difficult conversations, give and receive constructive feedback, and negotiate with a win-win attitude

NEW! Using Efficient Organizational Tools - February 24

TOD-4202

The use of organizational tools in the workplace helps you stay focused, on track, and create or maintain an efficient work environment where consistency, open communication, and effective interactions with others are cultivated. Tools could range from status reports to paper systems to a tickler file or an electronic tool, such as Outlook. In this workshop, you will:

  • Review simple tools that support effective collaboration and communication about deadlines, projects, or everyday work (including the ways that you keep yourself on track and others focused and clear about work processes or project deliverables, how you follow through on requests, and how you summarize both accomplishments and issues).

  • Practice using 1-3 tools using case studies in small groups.

  • Strategize what tools you currently use that could be used more efficiently or effectively, or what tools you could begin using.

No course fee.
