Use the Training Needs Assessment tool in the Axess portal to identify required training

Use the Training Needs Assessment tool in the Axess portal to quickly identify required training based on your role, your responsibilities, and/or your special duties. Clarify expectations with your supervisor or manager, such as which training to take first, then enroll in STARS. Use these instructions to complete the Training Needs Assessment:

  • Login to Axess: https://axess.stanford.edu.
  • Click the STARS (Training) tab.
  • Click My Training Needs from the left menu and follow the link to the assessment.
  • Respond to a series of statements and questions regarding job role, responsibilities, or specific duties, clicking Next to proceed through the assessment.
  • Click Submit when done.
  • A list of required training displays with course title. Training is automatically added to your learning plan.
  • Click My Learning to review added training, which is set to a status of Planned. Have a discussion with your manager to identify the desired timing for you to complete training. Also check with him/her to identify recommended training useful to your role or responsibilities, as the Training Needs assessment identifies only required training.
  • Click Enroll to submit your enrollment. A confirmation email will be sent, and the status of the training changes from Planned to Enrolled. (Other status settings you'll see are In-Progress, Dropped, or Completed.) The Training Needs Assessment can be used repeatedly.
