Ravikovitch, Dalia

Dahlia Ravikovitch (b. 1936) was born in a Tel Aviv suburb and after her father's death was sent to live on a kibbutz. She studied at the Hebrew University and later worked as a journalist and high school teacher. Her first poems appeared in 1954. The author of several volumes of poetry, she has also published a collection of short stories and a number of children's books. Ravikovitch has translated children's literature, including Mary Poppins and Cinderella, as well as the poetry of William B. Yeats and T.S. Eliot. She has received several literary awards, including the Bialik Prize and the 1990 Israel Prize.
