The neanderthal index tool calculates the number of alleles you have at 42 SNPs that are consistent with Neanderthal inheritance. These SNPs reside in the candidate regions of the human genome thought to comprise the 1-4% reported Neanderthal DNA that is in the human genome (Green et al. Science 2010).

To run this tool, type:

python gene210-scripts/neanderthal.py yourgenotypefile.txt 

into the Terminal as you have for other exercises in GENE210.
