Day on the Beach

Join Us For Our Annual Fun, Free, and Accessible Adventure!

Day on the Beach is Shared Adventures' annual highlight event when more than 300 people with special needs, 400+ family members and friends, and over 250 enthusiastic volunteers team up to share a full day of adaptive sports: kayaking, outrigger canoeing, SCUBA diving, beach wheelchair rides, and life-changing memories. Day on the Beach has given participants and volunteers an unforgettable experience of breaking through barriers to see dreams become reality.

Our generous volunteers lay down over 170 pieces of plywood on frames, creating a unique 5,700 square foot platform on the sand that enables those with mobility challenges to travel over it with ease and to participate in all of our activities. We also offer beach wheelchair rides - an opportunity to explore the beach in a whole new way.

Every year, we offer free live music and entertainment, free food, sandcastle building, and so much more. Participants of all ages - from four to 83 so far - have traveled from all around the country to attend. We hope you’ll take advantage of this special event, and to see you at the beach!

Inclusive Housing Community Advocacy Workshops

The Kelsey seeks to develop a solution for the disability housing crisis in the Bay Area that is financially sustainable, rooted in partnership, built for scale, and fully inclusive. It is envisioned to consist of mixed ability, mixed income housing communities where people of all abilities and backgrounds live, play, and serve together. The Kelsey team is working to unlock new capital for disability and affordable housing; leveraging existing public, private, and nonprofit partners; and creating housing models that are sustainable and replicable.

Lindsay Johnson, Director of Policy and Partnerships, reports, "The Kelsey recently received a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to conduct an eight-month organizing and pre-development process to design, enable, and build inclusive communities. Part of this process includes engaging diverse local stakeholder teams to work towards new solutions. We would love to have community members of Stanford's Perspectives in Assistive Technology course who have an interest in disability or housing advocacy join our Silicon Valley team.
