Perspectives is the newsletter of the
Stanford course, Perspectives in Assistive
Technology.
Last Call for Assistive
Technology Project Suggestions
Perspectives in Assistive Technology is a Winter Quarter
Stanford course - now starting its tenth year - that explores the design,
development, and use of assistive technology that benefits people with
disabilities and older adults. The schedule
consists of semi-weekly classroom discussions; lectures by
notable professionals, clinicians, and assistive technology users; tours
of local medical, clinical, and engineering facilities; an assistive
technology faire; and a film screening.
Course News - Enrollment continues to be very strong with
40 students signed up for the course so far.
Last Call for Assistive
Technology Project Suggestions - A few more good project offerings
are needed for student teams to select from and pursue. Your suggestions are
solicited and must be based on an observation or experience of a real challenge
faced by individuals with a disability or older adults.
Before you submit your project suggestions, visit the
Course Project Solicitation webpage for
a list of project requirements and a description of how best to convey your
ideas. If your project is accepted, you can "pitch" it to the class on
Thursday, January 7th. And if a
student team selects it, you will have the opportunity to offer them advice,
direction, and expertise in person or by phone and/or email.
Please feel free to contact me anytime during the
project suggestion process to answer questions or provide additional
material. |

What happened to this year's
Abilities Expo? - The Abilities Expo was not able to secure a
venue for this year's event. However, they will return next year. The Expo has
been the go-to source for the community of people with disabilities, their
families, seniors, veterans, and healthcare professionals.
The Abilities Expo will take place next
year on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - November 18th - 20th at the
San Jose McEnery Convention Center. More information and free
registration can be found on the expo website. |

course? - Funding in any amount for the course and student projects
is always welcomed. Monetary gifts support approved project expenses,
administrative costs, honoraria for guest lecturers, and the end-of-term
celebration. Refer to the Team Project Support
webpage for more information.
Do you have a question, comment, or
suggestion? - If you have general questions, comments, or
suggestions about the course, David L. Jaffe, MS, the instructor, can be
