Perspectives is the newsletter of the Stanford
course, Perspectives in Assistive Technology.
Special Issue on Course and Project
Support
Perspectives in Assistive
Technology is a Winter Quarter Stanford course starting its ninth season in
early January that explores the design, development, and use of assistive
technology that benefits people with disabilities and older adults. It consists
of semi-weekly classroom discussions; lectures by notable
professionals, clinicians, and assistive technology users; tours of
local medical, clinical, and engineering facilities; and an assistive
technology faire.
Course and Project Support - Companies and
community members are encouraged to support the course and to suggest student
projects. Monetary gifts of $5000 per project support approved project
expenses, administrative costs, honoraria for guest lecturers, and the
end-of-term celebration. Contributions of lesser amounts are also
welcomed.
The benefits of
corporate involvement include opportunities to:
- work with a team of
bright Stanford students on a project that you have suggested
- participate in the
training of new engineers
- increase the
visibility of your company on campus
- make progress on
lower priority projects inexpensively
- try a new way of
looking at and solving problems
- influence a future
product design through the students' efforts
- attend the final
student project presentation
- receive a copy of
the students' final project report
- gain access to and
assess the qualities and capabilities of students for recruitment and
prospective hiring
Please contact the
course instructor if you would like to support the course. Community members
who attend class lectures are also encouraged to contribute. Refer to the
Course and Project Support webpage for more
information. |
You are invited to attend a screening of the documentary film
Stumped presented at the
17th United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF). - When Will Lautzenheiser
suddenly finds himself a quadrilateral amputee, he adapts to a world he never
could have imagined, and finds a new creative outlet in stand-up comedy.
Stumped is a ten-minute documentary about Wills survival and
physical rehabilitation as a quadrilateral amputee, and how the aspiring
filmmaker copes with tragedy through comedy. It highlights his trials and
triumphs including his first stand-up comedy performance, just one year after
his amputations. |
