Perspectives is the newsletter of the Stanford
course, Perspectives in Assistive Technology.
This issue informs you of three upcoming
events.
Perspectives in Assistive
Technology is a Winter Quarter Stanford course completing its ninth
season that explores the design, development, and use of assistive
technology that benefits people with disabilities and older adults. It consists
of semi-weekly classroom discussions; lectures by notable
professionals, clinicians, and assistive technology users; tours of
local medical, clinical, and engineering facilities; and an assistive
technology faire. Much more information can be found on the
course website.
Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Magical Bridge
Playground! - Do you believe in Magic? Magical Bridge has built the
nation's first fully accessible and socially inclusive playground designed
specifically for children with disabilities as well as children of parents who
have a disability. Please join us in Palo Alto's Mitchell Park on Saturday,
April 18th from 10:00am to 5:00pm for the playground's grand opening that
will include entertainment, food, and fun.

Attend the SCI/PVA Awareness Fair! - The
SCI/PVA
Awareness Fair is a collaboration between the Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo
Alto Health Care System Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Center and the
Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Bay Area
& Western Chapter to bring awareness to the community about spinal cord
dysfunction and available programs related to sports, recreation, research,
medical care, as well as other areas of assistive technology.
The fair will be
held on Thursday, April 30th from 11am to 2pm in the VA Palo Alto's SCI
Center (Building 7) dining room and courtyard. For more information, please
contact the PVA chapter office at 800/273-6789. This event is free and open to
the public. Plan to come early, park off-site, or take
Stanford's Marguerite
Shuttle or public transportation as on-site parking may be
limited. |

Join the Stanford Design EXPErience 2015! -
Stanford's Mechanical Engineering
Design Group invites you to celebrate our students' creative work in design
research, design practice, engineering, and manufacturing. The
Stanford Design EXPErience is a unique,
once-a-year opportunity to meet with students, faculty, and industry
colleagues. This year brings an expansive range of participating courses,
faculty, and students from a broad cross section of design thinking activities
at Stanford.
Register,
attend, and see student work from the ME310:Global Project-Based Engineering
Design, Innovation, and Development course, the ME113 Mechanical Engineering
Design class, and other ME Design courses on Thursday, June 4th from 9am to
5pm.
Four ME113
assistive technology student projects will be demonstrated: Prosthetic Swim
Fin, Baby Lifter, Orthotic Knee Extension, and Prosthetic Quick
Disconnect. |
