Perspectives is the newsletter of the Stanford
course, Perspectives in Assistive Technology.
This issue wraps up this year's course and informs you
of some upcoming events.
Perspectives in Assistive
Technology is a Winter Quarter Stanford course completing its ninth
season that explores the design, development, and use of assistive
technology that benefits people with disabilities and older adults. It consists
of semi-weekly classroom discussions; lectures by notable
professionals, clinicians, and assistive technology users; tours of
local medical, clinical, and engineering facilities; and an assistive
technology faire. Much more information can be found on the
course website.
Thank you for your course participation! - By all
accounts, this year's course was a huge success. It was another year of
excellent presentations, tours, an assistive technology faire, and a film
screening. The student teams' presentations, project results, final reports,
and course evaluations were well executed, well written, and very positive.
Thanks to all who contributed: students, community members, guest presenters,
carpool drivers, project suggestors, and team mentors. If you missed a lecture,
you can view it online. |

Do you have an idea for an assistive technology project for
next year's course? - You are encouraged to submit your project
suggestions based on real problems experienced by individuals with disabilities
or older adults in the local community. Visit the
Course Project
Solicitation webpage for the project requirements and how to best
communicate your ideas. If your project is accepted, you can
"pitch" it to the class
on Thursday, January 7th. And if a student team selects it, you will
have the opportunity to offer them advice, direction, and expertise in person
or by phone and/or email. The deadline is Tuesday, December 1st.

gifts support approved project expenses, administrative costs, honoraria for
guest lecturers, and the end-of-term celebration. Refer to the
Team Project Support webpage for more
information. |
