Call for Project Coaches and Assistive Technology Users Beyond attending lectures, there are other ways for community members to participate in the course. If you are an individual with a disability or older adult, you are welcome to suggest student projects that address a problem that you experience. Other community members are also encouraged to submit project ideas (in the form of a problem statement) that would benefit people with disabilities or older adults or their family members or their healthcare professionals. Read the Call for Candiate Team Project Ideas webpage to get the broad requirements for projects and how best to describe them. Also review the Candidate Team Projects webpage to view the current project list. Submit your project suggestions to me for consideration. If accepted, it will be listed on the course website and be printed as a handout for enrolled students. All individuals who have submitted approved projects have the opportunity to "pitch" their project on the second class session. See the Information and Instructions for Presenters of Candidate Projects webpage for a detailed description of the process. Students will have one week to form a team and select a project. (Please note that there are more projects than teams, so do not be disappointed if your project is not chosen.) If your project is chosen by a team, you will be expected to give them more information about the problem and guidance throughout the quarter. Meetings should occur weekly and may be accomplished face-to-face, by phone, Skype, or email. Individuals with a technical background who have had their project selected can offer their advice and expertise in the specific areas addressed by the project (mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer systems; knowledge of fabrication and testing techniques; and sources of materials). But, the students are expected to identify and pursue their own creative solution.
