Performance of the Lapped Orthogonal Transform Daniel Veiner I plan to work on the Lapped Orthogonal Transform project. A Lapped Orthogonal Tranform coder will be implemented in Matlab. Attention will be paid to efficency in computation. The coder will be compared to the standard DCTII coder, and a comparison's will be made for varying PSNR's and varying block-lengths. As the Lapped Orthogonal Transform is meant to alleve blocking effects and ringing effects, visual comparisons will also be made to determine if these effects are truly eliminated for coarse quantization scales. Uniform Entropy coding will be assumed but a Huffman Code will not actually be implemented, just simulated. PSNR - R curves will be generated to compare methods. In summary, the LOT will be compared to the DCTII in terms of distortion and visual effects.
