Celebratory cakes – anatomically correct fertile, mac1 and msca1 anthers are illustrated in transverse section. Challenged to identify the mutants after his Ph.D. oral defense, graduate student Tim Kelliher successfully tagged each cake and then served “sections” to lab friends and family members who attended a barbeque at the Stock Farm field lab.
